Over the last few days the fishing has been very constant. The Walleyes are still biting under the docks and the Crappies and Yellows are starting to show up just outside the weed lines. Just a few days ago we pulled a nice pile of Crappies out and most were in the 10 to 11 range with some 12 plus. Catfishing has also been amazing this week 9 foot rocks with a jig and a Leech.
The Clear Lake Walleye bite is on. I would say this week has been the best week all year. We have been putting the smackdown on the Walleye and Crappie. If your looking to book a trip I would have to say that now is the perfect time.
This year we have been targeting everything from Perch to Walleyes so it will be nice to change things up and start chasing fish with an attitude. The Clear Lake Muskie population is awesome and the DNR do a great job stocking fish on a regular basis. This lake will almost always give you a shot for a fish of a life time. Pictured is a good client Dennis Clark with a 49″ Clear Lake fish. It was CPR’d and named Lucy.
The fishing this week has been good. We have been fishing with jigs and slip bobbers on the rocks. Casting plastics has also been working well near the wind swept points. The Yellow Bass have also started to pick up over the last few days. If we can get another warm spell the Yellows are going to be on fire. Yesterday Chris and his son had 50 plus yellows and 3 big whites fishing in 4 to 5ft along the rushes.
We have some exciting news!!!
Kevan Paul and Chris Scholl have decided to open a new bait shop in Clear Lake. We will be at 524 Hwy 18 East. CLEAR LAKE BAIT & TACKLE Inc. The shop will have everything from Muskie gear to ice fishing houses. If you’re looking for a great place to shop this year give us a shot.
Two local guides running a bait shop….. It doesn’t get any better than this!
I can tell you that this ice season has been great. We have had some fantastic bites between Okoboji and Clear Lake. I want to say thank you to everyone that came to visit.
Its TIME!!!!!!! SPRING WALLEYES!!!!!!
It’s time to start thinking about spring Walleyes and Crappies. The last two years the spring fishing has been unreal. It doesn’t matter if you like Panfish or Walleyes, we will be able to put you on a great bite. The calendar fills up fast so I recommend booking sooner than later. Feel free to call for details. 641-529-2359
This week has been warm and I have been receiving multiple call in regards to the ice. The ice is fishable and will be ok for a while yet. The biggest thing is the shoreline so please keep a eye on the access points. Trucks were ok today but might not be tomorrow so please use caution.
This time of the year can be one of the best times to land that trophy that you have been looking for. Late ice locations are similar to first ice locations. You will want to look at shallow points and some areas that have moving water. Remember use caution the ice is melting so please make sure you have your safety tools along. (life jacket, spud bar, ice spikes and a rope.
The sleeper will be coming off the ice soon and we will start working on the boat. We have started to book open water spring trips and those will fill up fast. Our spring bite will be killer this year. We are going to have a killer walleye bite and also a fantastic Crappie bite.
This year we are looking forward to the Musky bite. Please feel free to call for details on those trips.
I would like to say thank you to everyone for all the support is this ice season you guys were great.
This year the sleeper shack has been doing its job by producing some nice fish. Its not lights out but its good enough to where you can chase fish during the day and pop some nice ones in the shack at night. The guide service is in neutral at this time because of the big tournament this weekend. This weekend is the 4th annual Yellow Bass Bonanza and we have 510 anglers competing for over $30k in prizes. Monday the 15th we will be in full swing again and we do have some availability before the end of the month. Please call for dates if you have interest in fishing with us before ice out. I would also like to mention spring Walleyes. The 2016 Spring Walleye bite will be one of the best in years. The fishing over the last two open water seasons has been great and this year should be nothing less. If your looking for Walleyes and Crappies book with us in April May or June. If you want Yellow Bass / Walleye Mix June and July. If you want to Musky fish book May – Oct. Please visit my rates page for all the pricing. Feel free to call anytime.
Clear Lake, Spirit Lake and the IGLS have been good. The sleeper on Clear has been kicking out some nice panfish with a few nice Walleye mixed in. The Yellow bass have been biting like crazy on the west end of the big lake. If your looking for Yellows work 8 to 10 ft and when you start to catch a few drill out the area so you can cover more water. If your looking for Crappie work the little lake dredge cuts. Over at the IGLS Spirit has been good. You will want to work 21ft out from buffalo run. The bite on East has probably been the most consistent bite at boji this year. If you fish east work 18 to 20 ft and small spoons has been the ticket for us. Fish the bar at Emerson’s if your looking for gills. Small dingle drop with a smashed waxie has been our best bait.
We have ice and there is some fishable ice at the IGL’S. Clear Lake will be fishable by new years and the Igls will be even better at that time. If you have plans to go out please make sure you have a spud bar and a floatation device. Another great thing to do is to call the local bait shops to get the most current ice report.
My guide service will be in full force the week of new years. If you have questions or want to book a trip please give me a call.
Our guided trips are full service. We have multiple fish houses with heaters to keep you warm and dry.
Dec. 19th and 20th I’ll be at Cabelas in Owatonna Minn. 8 to 2 daily
Jan. 2nd I’ll be at Bass Pro in Altoona Iowa 9 to 2
Jan 8th 9th and 10th I’ll be at the Des Moines Boat and Outdoor Sports Show. (seminars daily and I’ll have a booth) I’ll be doing a drawing for a guided fishing trip so please stop in and get signed up.
This fishing has been very good on Clear Lake but its shore and boat fishing at this time. Once we get ice its going to be lights out!! We have been taking large numbers of reservations because southern Iowa will not have much ice this year. This year like last year we will have 3 guides on Clear Lake so don’t be afraid to give us a call if your interested.
We will also be doing a lot of work at Okoboji this year. The bite at the IGL’S could be record setting!
