The bite has been great!

It’s been a great season so far on Clear Lake and even with all the rain the bite continues to be good. We have been catching limits of Walleye on most trips with some Yellow Bass, Pike, and panfish mixed in. Most of the fish have been caught on Leeches or Worms. We have been using a lot of jigs and slip bobbers over the last 3 weeks and the bite has been in 4-8 feet of water for most trips. After the 4th of July we have many spots open. Guide Trips run $300 for 2 people and that covers 4 hours of fishing and we will clean your fish. You will enjoy the day on the lake with us.

Please visit our facebook page Kevan Pauls Guide Service and give it a LIKE. We are much more active on that page. I’ll do my best post more reports here as well.

Please call 641-529-2359 to book your trip today.

Late Ice on Clear Lake Iowa

Late ice is coming soon and I have a feeling that this one is going to be epic! We will be offering trips into March if all goes well. Last March we smoked the Walleyes and Perch and I’m hoping this year will be the same.

June 26th Fishing Report

Clear Lake Iowa

I wish I could sit here and tell you that the last few days was on fire but it wasn’t. We had a huge cold front come in a few days ago and the water dropped 11 degrees and shut the bite down. One thing that has helped me become the guide I am today is honesty. 6-24-17 and 6-25-17 were the worst two days I’ve had all year and I really didn’t want to go today but I’m glad I did. I called my customer last night and told him what the bite was like and they decided to stick it out and go fishing anyway despite what I thought. Lonnie and Deb knew the weather was going to be great, so regardless we were going to have a good time.

Today we chased Walleyes and didn’t do to bad. We lost a really nice 20 plus inch fish at the boat and landed some nice eaters with a bonus catfish. haha

Please feel free to give me a call if you have any questions.

Thank You

This Weeks Review and Report 5-22-17

Clear Lake Review and Report

Over the last few days the weather hasn’t been ideal for Walleye fishing but we have managed to put a pattern together that has kept us on some nice fish all week. Today the weather finally broke and the bite was no different and we boated our limit in under one hour. Today the water has started to climb again and I think we are going to see some insane bites over the next couple of weeks. (Walleye and Muskie both)

Walleye Classic Review
This last weekend we fished in the 28th Annual Clear Lake Walleye Classic and with a little luck we pulled out a solid 7th place finish out of 100 boats. It wasn’t as good as our 4th place finish last year but a top 10 is always good. On Saturday of this years tournament we hooked up with a fish right out of the gate that probably went 3 or 4 pounds. It was the 1st fish of the day and it was only 8 feet away hung up on a piece of structure flopping on the surface. Now there was two things that could have happened, one the fish could have come loose so we could boat it or two the line breaks. You can guess what happened. That fish would have put us right around the top but thats fishing. It seems like every tournament many teams have a fish they loose or the big one gets away. Thats fishing!

The guiding has been fantastic this year and I appreciate all the support from you guys. We have 4 guides working trips right now and everyone is on the same page which is a good thing for our guest. We have a few different bites going as we speak and we are working on more everyday. The Crappie made a move out of the shallows and the spawn is pretty much over so we are on the hunt to find their next location.
The Walleye have been going like gang busters and that bite should only get better.
The Muskie should start heating up this week with the warmer water and the Yellows up shallow spawning.

Just a reminder on our trips we do supply everything and we can take anyone fishing regardless of age or disability. We do offer corporate outings as well and we can put together a group of very good local pros and guides that can manage a very large group. On our corporate outings the sky is the limit.

Please feel free to give me a call if you have any questions or would like to book a trip.

Thanks Kevan

The 2016 – 2017 ice season will be ending soon. After this next warm spell the ice fishing on Clear Lake will be pretty much done. We are expecting 50 to 60 degree days this week and unless we get another hard cold snap we will be packing it up early this year. The good news is that we are going to have some killer fishing this spring. Crappies and Walleyes will be the primary target for most of the spring. If you’re looking for a fun day on the water our open water spring fishing trips are some of the best trips all year. We have a large guide staff readily available and we have done corporate trips with as many as 20 boats involved. We also offer guided Muskie Trips. Clear Lake offers some of the best Muskie fishing in Iowa and we love to target them.

The bite has been great this fall!

It looks like we are going to finish the year strong. We have been on a great Perch and Walleye bite. Best baits have been 1/8 th oz jig with a worm or minnow.  We have also been casting Rip in raps. Dragging small creek chubs in the little lake has been good for finding big fish.  Please swing by our new bait shop Clear Lake Bait and Tackle next time your in town. Nov. 18 – 20th will be our Grand Opening and Ice Season Kickoff we will have some great seminars planned along with piles of door prizes.

We have started to book winter trips! If you’re looking for a great time on the ice give me a call we will get you all set up.

Fishing is good!

With the weather being so crazy lately we are very happy with how well the fish have been on the chew.  Yellows and Crappies are biting like mad when you can get on the school and an occasional Walleye is usually mixed in.
Its time to start thinking about the Fall Muskie bite. It won’t be long and the fall bite will start to pick up. We have many openings for later in September and Early October.  October is usually a great time for Yellows and slab Crappies also. Walleyes should be rocking by then also.

Ice Fishing this year is going to be crazy awesome. Our new bait shop Clear Lake Bait and Tackle will be your best option for ice fishing gear around the Clear Lake area. We will have a great selection of shacks and tackle from all manufacturers.  We have started to work on pre orders for ice gear and if there is something you need or would like to have just let us know.  Thanks Kp

Over the last few days the fishing has been very constant. The Walleyes are still biting under the docks and the Crappies and Yellows are starting to show up just outside the weed lines. Just a few days ago we pulled a nice pile of Crappies out and most were in the 10 to 11 range with some 12 plus. Catfishing has also been amazing this week 9 foot rocks with a jig and a Leech.
